India ranked 16th with assets of around Rs 25,000 crore (Rs 250 billion) stashed in offshore accounts, according to the expose by The Indian Express which partnered with French newspaper Le Monde and International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) to bring out an exhaustive report on illegal money stashed away in foreign bank accounts.
The list was was topped by Switzerland with $31.2 billion followed by United Kingdom, Venezuela, US and France. Top diamond traders also figure in the list.
Other important names include Swraj Paul and members of Manu Chhabria’s family. The Indian Express report reveals that there are 276 account holders with at least $1 million in their balance of whom 85 are residing in the country.
