IDC says Windows set to grab tablet market share from iOS, Android

Windows is all set to excel the tablet world and grab the market share from the present top operating systems iOS and Android.

According to a research report released by IDC on Thursday, of the 229.7 million units shipped in 2014, Android and iOS top the list of operating systems for tablets, with 67.3 per cent and 27.6 per cent share, respectively.

Windows accounted for just 5.1 per cent market share.

Jean Philippe Bouchard, research director for tablets at IDC, said Windows 10 will reach tablets this year, "which may signal the beginning of gradual growth for Windows in the coming years".

Though the tablet market faced a fast growth through 2012 and 2013, Windows was still far behind its competitors, iOS and Android.

However, the operating system is looking forward to reaching 14.1 per cent of the market share in the future, according to a report by PC World.

In order to make a more appealing appearance, Microsoft has made major changes to the user interface of Windows 10. The company is also working to bring program compatibility across the OS in order to overcome the problem which was faced in Windows 8 version.

With the growing demand for user and productivity experience, Windows is the only OS that has been put across all devices to make file and content sharing easier.
